Richard A. Frankel focuses his practice in the areas of healthcare, business, commercial and real estate transactions. He has counseled a wide variety of clients, including hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, lending institutions, affordable housing corporations, contractors and individuals with respect to the full range of corporate, regulatory, contract, construction and real estate matters.

Rich has substantial experience in tax-exempt financing for healthcare facility projects, mortgage and asset-based financing, and acquisition structuring and financing. Rich also practices in the fields of charitable giving, estate planning (drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney and healthcare proxies). Rich also advises clients in matters relating to the probate and administration of estates.

Rich has been an adjunct faculty member of the Albany Law School of Union University, where he taught a real estate transaction course to upper-level law students. He also served on the Committee on Not-for-Profit Entities and Concerns of the Real Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. Additionally, he is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Eastern New York and the American Health Law Association.

Rich has been named to Best Lawyers in America® for Trusts and Estates from 2018 to 2025 and was named the Best Lawyers® 2022 Trusts and Estates “Lawyer of the Year” in New York. He has earned the AV Preeminent TM rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Prior to entering private practice, Rich served as a law clerk to the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Department. He was a member of the Law Review at Albany Law School, where he was also a member of the Justinian Society for Academic Excellence.
