In Memoriam: Lawrence A. Levy

1958 – 2024

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our partner and friend, Larry Levy.

Managing Partner Evan Krinick describes Larry as the consummate Rivkin Radler professional. “He was an outstanding attorney but an even more outstanding person. He was dedicated to his clients and loyal to his core to our firm and his friends. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Mets and Islanders and incredibly knowledgeable about all sports. And of course, the music of the Grateful Dead was always playing in his head.”

Larry began his legal career in 1984 as a summer associate at the firm, then known as Rivkin Leff Sherman & Radler. He was hired on December 9, 1985, as an associate and promoted to partner on January 1, 1992.

For nearly 30 years, Larry was an insurance coverage litigator, representing large insurance companies in complex disputes involving claims for toxic torts, asbestos, environmental hazards, directors and officers liability, and errors and omissions.

Larry achieved many significant victories for the firm’s clients, including notable rulings on allocation and defense costs. He served on the editorial board of the D&O Liability Litigation News and wrote numerous articles that appeared in publications such as Best’s ReviewMealey’s Emerging Insurance Disputes, the D&O Liability Litigation News, and the New York Law Journal.

Larry graduated from St. John’s University School of Law, cum laude, and served as executive notes and comments editor of the St. John’s Law Review, to which he also contributed articles.

A longtime resident of the Village of Thomaston, NY, where he resided with his wife and two children, Larry also served as chair of the Village Design Review Board and the Village Ethics Committee.

Larry enjoyed a full life, albeit one that ended much too soon. His smile, camaraderie, dedication and friendship will be missed by everyone at Rivkin Radler and his many personal and professional communities.

His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 11:00 am at Temple Israel, 108 Old Mill Road, Great Neck. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings on the Hudson, in Westchester.
